About PhoneLookup

PhoneLookup is a free, community-powered reverse phone lookup and spam reporting service. We help anyone identify a phone number in seconds — its country, region, carrier, line type, timezone, international format, and the experiences other real people have had with it.

Why we built PhoneLookup

Phone-based fraud is now the largest single channel of consumer scams in India and a growing problem worldwide. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre logged over eleven lakh financial-fraud complaints last year, the UK Action Fraud line is fielding more than a thousand reports a day, and the US Federal Trade Commission has tracked phone scams as the most-reported contact method four years in a row. The single thing that consistently breaks the scam — whether it is a fake parcel call in Delhi, a fake HMRC voicemail in London or a fake Social Security threat in Florida — is being able to look up the number, see other people’s reports, and recognise the script before any money or information changes hands. That is what PhoneLookup exists to do, for free, with no login, in 240+ countries.

Built on open standards

Phone number parsing and validation are powered by Google libphonenumber, the same library that ships inside Android, WhatsApp and most enterprise telecom platforms. It gives us reliable handling of national prefixes, international formats, line-type detection (mobile, landline, toll-free, premium-rate, VoIP) and timezone mapping for every assigned number range on Earth. Country, carrier and region metadata are kept in sync with the latest libphonenumber release.

Every article on PhoneLookup is written by a named editor with a bio, an email address, and a public list of previous articles. We do not publish anonymous content and we do not run AI-generated posts under a house byline.

Community-first reports

Every spam, fraud, scam, telemarketer and safe-call tag on PhoneLookup comes from real users. No account is needed to file a report, and reports are completely anonymous. We aggressively rate-limit and de-duplicate submissions to keep the dataset honest — a single number receiving identical comments from one IP range will not move the score. Reports are weighted by recency and diversity of sources, so a number that suddenly receives ten varied reports from different cities in one day is surfaced to the top of the trending pages within minutes.

What we never do

• We never sell phone numbers, contact lists, or any user data.
• We never run outbound calls, robocalls, or SMS broadcasts — PhoneLookup is read-only.
• We never publish the names, addresses or identities of individual subscribers.
• We never accept payment to remove honest community reports from a number.
• We have no affiliation with any carrier, government body or law-enforcement agency.

Privacy and removals

Our full data-handling, retention and rights policy is documented in the Privacy Policy. If you believe a number on the site identifies you and you would like it removed, email privacy@phonelookup.in and we will action the request within seven working days.

For businesses

We are building a small set of business products on top of PhoneLookup: bulk lookup for contact-list hygiene, a reputation API for risk teams, and verified-business badges so legitimate enterprises can claim their own number ranges and respond publicly to false reports.
